Pittsburgh Steelers gradually giving playing time to 2023 NFL Draft class. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has been exceptional in limited playing time.
The coaching staff hasn't named him full-time starter.
The cornerback room has two veterans, Levi Wallace and Patrick Peterson, who are supporting Porter's maturation process.
Things have changed. Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin named Porter a starter after the Week 8 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Wallace will still play, but the move is costly for him. Alabama player struggles to guard wide receivers in seven games this season.
Porter excelled as the team's top cornerback against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He consistently excelled in coverage recently.
In Week 8, Porter received a good grade from Pro Football Focus, while the rest of the secondary struggled.
The rookie is now sixth among cornerbacks with an 81.9 overall grade.
